SPIRITUAL SUNDAY - TOWER OF BABEL

I found this interesting painting of the Tower of Babel and wanted to share it with you today.

The Tower was a terraced pyramid built by the descendants of Noah who settled near Babylon in Mesopotamia after the great flood. It was built to reach Heaven but God did not want the tower built. "And the Lord said, "Behold they are one people and they have one language; and this is only the beginning of what they shall do; and nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them". . ."So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city. Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth..." Genesis 11: 6, 8, 9 RSV.

In this painting, by the Bedford Master & Workshop. It is described as an "intriguing and unusual depiction of the building of the Tower of Babel. You can see angels tossing fighting artisans off the top of the Tower. Workmen mixing mortar in a tent to the left and a camel being packed up at the back of the tower and to the right."Click on image to enlarge. Funny how we strive to understand when we hear someone else speaking in another language. I was just asking the charge nurse last night if something happened that we have a new memo at work, to always speak in English. It's understandable why. But also, some are too nosy to want to know what others are talking about in another language.

That's awesome that your daughter learned the guitar. And became a teacher! Yup! they do hurt when you form blisters. But it's a great thing to learn how to play because you'll learn patience at the same time. Isn't it true with our lives? We go through refining process, to produce better music despite the pain of having the strings tightened once in a while. Have a great week ahead sister and GOd bless and protect you always.

That's interesting, Jean. I've wondered what the tower of Babel looked like. Mostly I wondered how high they actually got it up to before it was stopped. No way it could have been as tall as some of our buildings today. Thanks for sharing.
Blessings,
Charlotte
