One simple pleasure for me is people watching! I had some time to fill between trains here at the 30th Street Station in Philadelphia last week. This is part of the Food Court and I was just finishing my lunch when I snapped this picture.

In this age of electronic communication, with tweets, e-mail, texts and even books on electronic devices I sometimes just want to slow my life way down. That's why it is such a pleasure for me when I get REAL MAIL in a real mailbox with envelopes with a stamp on it brought to me by a friendly mail lady named Janice.

OUTDOOR WEDNESDAY

This morning I felt energized by my first Zumba class of the season and decided to take a walk before breakfast. I walked through this little wooded area near my house

and saw this robin on the sidewalk ahead of me -the zoom on my camera works wonders at times like these as I'm sure Robin wouldn't have let me get this close otherwise!

On my way back home approaching my patio I noticed that my Sweet Potato Vine was blooming so, of course, I had to snap a picture of it too!

SIMPLE PLEASURES

I have a box full of journals that I have kept over the years and sometimes, just for kicks I like to go back and read them. They are truly "get it off your chest" journals because, as far as I can see, I didn't do much except record the weather or moan about something that was going on with my job or my life. Of course, my creative writing teacher said to write at least three pages every morning...and so I did! They are fun to read now that I can look back at some of the silly things I was worried about then. It is so true...how important will this --------- (insert your problem of the moment) be in 5 years, 10 years or ever?

I do my writing on my blog now so I don't have as much time to write in journals...I think that someday I'll think that was a shame!

IN THE BACK OF MY CLOSET!

Did you ever know that something was a really good find when you brought it home from a house sale or yard sale because you just loved it? I've had this tote bag for a couple of years (usually hanging out in the back of my closet) and just the other day, while looking at it again I noticed a signature on it under the stylized bird's wing. The signature is FERNANDO LLORT and I looked it up and, what do you know? He is an artist of international recognition from San Salvador El Salvador who was very popular in the 80's before he became so ill with Parkinson's that he couldn't paint anymore. He studied in France then went to Belgium and studied theology which is why you will see religious symbols in his artwork, churches, doves (on my tote) or an eye that sees everything. http://www.wikipedia.com/

He specializes in the art and colors of his native country and some of his paintings sell between $1,500 and $2,000! He painted on tile, wood and canvas. His art is in the White House museum, the Vatican, Rome and in the collections of Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, the Pierre Cardin Collection and many others.

I am sure the former owner of this tote didn't pay anything like that and perhaps on a trip to El Salvador purchased this as a souvenir. I happened on a house sale and bought it for no more than $1.00!! I am now the happy owner of a faded, worn Fernando Llort tote that I really like. I was attracted to the colors that are so happy and bright they make me want to use this handy tote even more than I already do!

One of the pleasures I recently found was quilting! Above you will see three of my efforts. To the left, an unfinished pillow top using the easiest (and the first quilting technique I learned) called "Log Cabin," in the middle is a completed pillow (leaning up against a white pillow) that was just a little more difficult though I loved making it! On the right is a bible tote bag in "Crazy Quilt." I am still working on the embroidery on the tote bag. To enjoy more Simple Pleasures please see my friend Dayle at A Collection of This and That.
