WHAT I DO WHEN I'M NOT BLOGGING

This is my front door and the trim around the storm door really needed to be repainted...I'd been thinking of calling someone to come out and paint it but it is hard to find someone willing to do such a small job. I decided to tackle it myself and as I got into it, I found it was not as difficult as I had imagined it to be. I'm halfway done and decided I needed to take some pictures of me actually doing some work! :) You can see my reflection in the glass of the storm door wearing my white painter's cap. See that ladder? It is 11 years old and looks brand new - does that tell you something?
I've got all the blue tape around the trim and I've put the primer on and am getting ready to put on the exterior coat. The primer took about an hour to dry (so I went in and had lunch while I waited for it to dry) as it is the perfect day for painting...no humidity and about 70 degrees.

Coming down the side of the door...very time consuming as it is a very narrow piece of trim. This is the second and final coat. It's looking pretty good!

I even painted the white mounting wood under the light fixture - hey, as long as I was up on that ladder! While I was on the ladder, I noticed the ceiling was getting pretty dusty...oh well, a job for another day!

WOO HOO! - I WON AGAIN!!

This beautiful book was what was waiting for me in today's mail. I won it when Clif of Musings of a Minister had a book giveaway. He does this quite often, so I urge you to stop by his blog and see what he is all about! His posts are always informative and/or fun or both! The book is about a woman who loses her 15 year old son from an undiagnosed heart aliment. Afterwards, her life was forever changed when she accepted an invitation to visit orphanages in Vietnam and from there to Ghana to rescue children from slave trafficking. I can't wait to start reading it...thanks so much Clif for the opportunity to read and share this book.
Pam had no idea where Ghana was located on the continent of Africa!

QUILT OF HOLES on SPIRITUAL SUNDAY

As I faced my Maker at
the last judgment, I knelt
before the Lord along with
all the other souls.

Before each of us laid our
lives like the squares of a
quilt in many piles: an angel
sat before each of us
sewing our quilt squares
together into a tapestry
that is our life.

But as my angel took each
piece of cloth off the pile, I
noticed how ragged and
empty each of my squares
were. They were filled with
giant holes. Each square
was labeled with a part of
my life that had been
difficult, the challenges and
temptations I was faced
with in every day life. I saw
hardships that I endured,
which were the largest
holes of all.

I glanced around me.
Nobody else had such
squares. Other than a tiny
hole here and there, the
other tapestries were filled
with rich color and the
bright hues of worldly
fortune. I gazed upon my
own life and was
disheartened.

My angel was sewing the
ragged pieces of cloth
together, threadbare and
empty, like binding air...
Finally the time came when
each life was to be
displayed, held up to the
light, the scrutiny of truth.

The others rose; each in
turn, holding up
their tapestries. So filled
their lives had been. My
angel looked upon me, and
nodded for me to rise.

My gaze dropped to the
ground in shame. I hadn't
had all the earthly fortunes.

I had love in my life, and
laughter. But there had
also been trials of illness,
and wealth, and false
accusations that took from
me my world, as I knew it. I
had to start over many
times. I often struggled with
the temptation to quit, only
to somehow muster the
strength to pick up and
begin again. I spent many
nights on my knees in
prayer, asking for help and
guidance in my life. I had
often been held up to
ridicule, which I endured
painfully, each time
offering it up to the Father
in hopes that I would not
melt within my skin
beneath the judgmental
gaze of those who unfairly
judged me.

And now, I had to face the
truth. My life was what it
was, and I had to accept it
for what it was.

I rose and slowly lifted the
combined squares of my
life to the light. An awe-
filled gasp filled the air. I
gazed around at the others
who stared at me with wide
eyes.

Then, I looked upon the
tapestry before me. Light
flooded the many holes,
creating an image, the face
of Christ. Then our Lord
stood before me, with
warmth and love in His
eyes. He said, 'Every time
you gave over your life to
Me, it became My life, My
hardships, and My
struggles.

Each point of light in your
life is when you stepped
aside and let Me shine
through, until there was
more of Me than there was
of you.'

May all our quilts be
threadbare and worn,
allowing Christ to shine
through!

OUR WEEK AT KESWICK - HIGHLIGHT OF THE SUMMER

Pearl and I at one of the picturesqe spots along the lake.
Tuesday is when the thrift shop is open and people from the surrounding community come to shop and leave donations.

This is where Pearl found a small coffemake (in very good condition) for $2.50! She was a very happy shopper that day!

This is Robert the resident muscian...an extremely talented young man who along with his wife, Joyce and son, Jordan play and sing along with Bill pictured below. It is such a pleasure to have these talented folks leading us in song and praise.

Here is Bill (Keswick's director) playing for the beginning of our evening service with Robert at the other keyboard.

This is the lake where swimming is allowed and where we had a bondfire on Wednesday night.

This is one of two lakes (actually three) on the property and on this one they allow canoeing but not swimming. This is the view from the enclosed porch where we have our meals.

On Wednesday night, we had a bondfire and we roasted marshmellows and made S'mors (can you believe that I've never had a S'mor? Well, our host made sure that I had one - Oh wow, what have I been missing !)

This photo was taken of us on our last full day. We are attending a hymnsing that is open to the public and there we were joined by about 500 people from the community. Afterwards we enjoyed a delicious luncheon. Left to right first row: Peg, Pearl, Anna and Me. Back row: Marion and Marge.

Here I leave you with a beautiful shot of the part of the lake nearest the Administration building and the porch where we can sit and chat or read our bibles or just enjoy the beauty that is part of the enchantment of America's Keswick.

LOOK WHAT I'VE WON!

Sister Sheri of The Leaking Window had a contest a few weeks ago. She asked for one sentence of six words and six words only. The very first sentence that came to my mind was: "I come to the garden alone" from the hymn, "In the Garden." Well, according to Sister Sheri that was the one that struck her as the winner!
Inside was a very sweet note of congratulations on my winning the Beth Moore CD series.
Wow! This is really fun and look how beautifully this is packaged!

Sheri, I can't thank you enough for these wonderful CD's! I have always admired Beth Moore but have never had the pleasure of hearing her or attending one of her seminars. This will be such a pleasure for me to be able to listen to these at any time.

I'VE BEEN ON A RETREAT!

This is the Raws Memorial Administration Building where we check in and where the dining hall and Gathering Place is. A lot of the activities take place in this three story building which also has many of the rooms we can stay in. However, we stayed next door at a two story, motel like building...there are no elevators in either building and one flight up is much easier than three! Here we are gathering for dinner before the evening service. Everyone gathers in "The Gathering Place" and waits for the PA announcement that lets us know they are ready for us to come into the dining hall. We always try to get our favorite table on the "porch" which overlooks one of the lakes.

This is the auditorium where we met every morning and every evening for services. Our speaker this year was Neil Fichthorn, President of Sandy Cove a Christian retreat similar to Keswick. During the afternoons we have free time and there are many things for us to do. There are two lakes and an olympic sized pool, a gym, a weight room, one of the councilors is also the resident bird watcher and you can meet Ken at 7:15 every morning to go out bird watching...I took a pass on that! I did, however, sign up for the crafts room every day after lunch.

Here are Marion, Marge and Anna trying to decide which project to choose. There were crazy quilt pillows, pillow shams or wall hangings, split rail pillows, pillow shams or wall hangings and each one looked better than the next.

Our wonderful, patient crafts teacher, Phyllis. She is a gem and never gets rattled no matter how many of us are asking for help at the same time! There is Marge (in the mirror) waiting her turn to ask Phyllis her opinion.

This is my crazy quilt project 3/4's done...and I'm not too happy with the way it looks! Phyllis, help! We only have a few hours left to finish our projects!

Here it is ... all finished! I'm so thrilled with how it turned out!
