Her sister, at the memorial service, read a poem that she said Barb had kept in her wallet. I asked for a copy of it as I thought it so beautiful.
Here it is:
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond that glints on the snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the mornings hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die.

Barb did not know when she attended another friend's memorial service in August of 2008, that we would be reading this poem at hers.

Life is so fragile. The poem is lovely. Sorry for your loss.
Wow! Sad. It is a nice poem though. So sorry you are going through some sadness from this loss, Mau. Maybe the poem is what she wanted to be remembered for.
Sorry about your loss. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Beautiful words!
Jean, I wanted to thank you for being a part of my first year of blogging! What a wonderful year it has been. I'm throwing a little party and as an honored guest, I would love for you to stop by and share a highlight of your year with all of us.

So sorry about your friend. What a huge loss it is I am sure.
Life is short. I am realizing that more and more.....because I'm hitting a "landmark" birthday this year. Ugh.
I'm thinking about how fast this journey has been thus far.
Sorry to hear about your friend. Praying that the Lord's comfort will cover you all, who are close to her. Blessings.
Jean, I am so sorry about your friend. I hope the memorial service helped you in your grief. She must have been a very special person to have had such a special friend as you. L, Dana
