Last Wednesday, as the temperatures hovered around the 90 degree mark, I decided I needed to "get out of Dodge" and take a hop over to the beaches! However, I got caught in the traffic snarl on one of the bridges undergoing construction! Oh me, oh my I spent almost an hour inching my way across. I lowered the windows and turned off the A/C to take advantage of any breeze that might come my way and then decided to take this picture of what was just so
enticingly close!

Finally made it into the town and onto the boardwalk and this is what I saw: people! Lots and lots of people! What is this a July afternoon?
NOOOOOOOOO, it is a day in EARLY APRIL!
WHOO HOO!! Everyone had the same idea and headed for the beaches!

On the boardwalk, so many of the stores won't be open until the Memorial Day weekend (or at least the preceding weekends) but this was a WEDNESDAY afternoon! So the stores and
restaurants that were open for business put out signs that said "please come on in - we are OPEN!

IKE'S in a very popular
restaurant at any season and doubly so when others are closed.
LOL!

Another store that said "come on in!"

Here is another look at the beach (and crazy people IN THE 49 degree WATER!!)

Another of my "IS THIS JULY?" pictures! HA!

Unfortunately, the
Nor'easter's we have suffered this winter
devastated the beach (and here the tide was GOING OUT) and you can see there isn't much room to spread a blanket or put a chair or umbrella! Though they surely tried!

More of the crowded, smallish portion of sand still available.

...and people still trying to find a spot to settle down for the afternoon. Though the mainland was 90 plus degrees here on the beach it was an agreeable mid-eighties and comfortable.

This was where a beautiful wedding took place last summer...

... sadly it wouldn't look so nice on this beach if it were today.

Some replenishment of the beach has begun but it will take a long time and millions of dollars to accomplish.

Pictures of dredging equipment showing the sand being pulled up from the ocean floor and being moved onto the beach.

Thanks for coming along with me on my trek out to the beach! Glad you could spend some time with me!

That is an interesting post you did in many ways,, the pictures are really nice -- and the weather looks a lot warmer then here in the North West where I live ,, still wearing coats...wandered over from the Outdoor Wed.
But I have to comment on the beaches -- maybe they should not be drudged Mother Nature is changing on us for sure -- out here we are losing beach at an alarming rate too, many people here have build they houses far too close and in danger of losing them,,
Changing weather patterns and sinking lands.

I have not been to a beach in years. Thanks for taking me along with you today. I truly enjoyed it.
My sis and I are heading to the beach tomorrow ... Galveston Island. It's a skip and a hop from home, so that makes it a nice day trip. Wish us sunshine.
WOW! I'm not sure I've ever seen that many people on that beach in APRIL! Great post. As a fan of that particular beach, I loved seeing the pics! So sorry you were stuck in the traffic. As soon as you realize you took the wrong bridge it's like.....DOH! LOL.
People are so SICK of "winter" weather. That's why they are coming out in droves like that...can't blame them one bit and I live in sunny Louisiana. We too had a bad winter.
Hope you enjoyed yourself...:~) I loved your photos. Gives me a new perspective of a different beach that is forsure...we saw so many various ones on our vacation. But they are ALL different that is forsure.
What a wonderful experience. Now I want to go to the beach. Love your photos.
Hugs,
Charlotte
