This is just a tiny bit of the damage left behind by Hurricane Irene this past Saturday evening into Sunday afternoon. I looked out my kitchen window about 10:00pm on Saturday night and saw that my beautiful Bradford Pear had lived up to it's reputation and split almost in half.
At that point in time, with the storm still raging, there was little I could do but wait until morning to assess the damage.
This huge branch fell onto my neighbor's driveway in the exact spot his wife's car had been parked until he, with a sudden "feeling" that he should move it, parked it in another neighbor's drivewayat the beginning of the storm. As it is, you can see it missed his pickup truck by mere inches! All this to say that I'll be busy with the cleanup and getting someone to come and take the rest of the tree down, so I won't be spending much time at the computer. I hope all who were in the path of Irene are okay and, like myself, only suffered minor damage.

You were very fortunate that was all the damage you received. Thankful it was not worse for everyone.
Yes, those pear trees do have just such a reputation! We see a lot of that in the many developments around our neigborhood where they are landscape plentiful - until a wind gust has its way!
Glad you fared well otherwise. We had a bit of water through the basement stairs but kept it contained so all else was dry - and though aching from wringing wet towels for four plus hours - joyful to be on the other side of the storm with greener grass and blue blue skies today!
Joy!

Glad you're all OK up there, Jean. We've endured many a hurricane, living close to the Gulf, and had some really rough ones with lots of damage and trees down, power out, you name it. However, my Bradford pear still stands. Go figure.

I'm trying to check in on all my blogging friends who were in the path of Irene. I'm so glad to read that you were safe. What a wonderful little hunch the Spirit gave to move that car.
We were blessed with minimal damage we had a Bradford Pear to split too, and our screened porch had the screen taken out but it is now fixed and I am enjoying time sitting on it. I went to bed with a heavy heart last night after seeing, and hearing all the damage that Irene had done to so many people. We are praying for them.
Be safe while doing your clean-up.

P.S.: I am glad that you-all didn't suffer much damage.
Bummer! Too bad it couldn't have been salvaged somehow. Ah well! You don't have to worry about it falling anymore!
