Getting the table ready A few weeks ago I said that I would be going to my daughter's home in Pennsylvania for what she and her sister were calling, "A Graceful Celebration" in honor of my Mom (her name was Grace) who had passed away in February. They decided to go "all out Italian" also in honor of Mom or Grandma as they called her who was of Sicilian ancestry and first generation in this country. Here is Jillian, who blogs at
Bella Rose Antiques
Look at that smile! We were making meatballs with a recipe in our heads (unfortunately we never wrote it down) and not on paper!

Here is the Tomato sauce simmering on the stove ready for the browned meatballs. By the way, they turned out wonderfully tasty but we know now that some of the spices and a different type of Italian cheese were missing. Oh well, next time will be closer to the "real thing."
The day was filled with laughter and tears - that was to be expected for such an occasion. We knew that Mom would have loved all of it.

Oh, how I can relate to the joy that your mom left behind. I don't know if I've mentioned it since you've been around my blog, but The Duchess is a round Italian Mama.
There is nothing any better.
I hope you all ate and laughed and remembered her in every way imaginable.
And I've been to Bella Rose Antiques blog. I'm sure I have. I didn't know that was your daughter.
What a wonderful thing to do in memory of your mom. I think the best recipes are those that never get written down.
A nice post, Mom...we must talk about my picture and ugly fridge on the internet! LOL.
Dau
How sweet and fun to remember your mom that way! The meatballs sounded fabulous...your mother would be proud of you all and would have loved it.
Ssounds like you had a lovely day together. I love meatballs with spaghetti and your sauce looks just right for it to me!
